The Story

About the Product: Peated Bourbon shouldn't exist — and that's exactly what makes it so interesting. Kings County takes the high-corn mashbill and new charred oak aging that defines American bourbon, then swaps in lightly peated Scottish barley in place of the usual malt. The barley is grown and kiln-dried in Scotland's Aberdeen region using peat sourced from the same area, measuring 15 ppm — enough to leave a clear impression without overwhelming the spirit. The result is a genuine category-crosser: unmistakably bourbon in its caramel sweetness and new oak character, with a quiet trail of campfire smoke and barbecue on the finish that nods firmly to the Scottish tradition. Double pot distilled in Brooklyn, double gold awarded in San Francisco.

About Kings County Distillery: Kings County Distillery is New York City's oldest operating whiskey distillery, founded in 2010 by Colin Spoelman and David Haskell in a 325-square-foot room in East Williamsburg before moving into the historic Brooklyn Navy Yard in 2012. From the very beginning, the philosophy was clear: make every drop in-house, never source from outside producers, and draw on whiskey traditions from around the world to build something distinctly American. Scottish copper pot stills, open fermentation, and locally sourced New York grain have been part of the process since day one. That commitment has been recognized with back-to-back Distillery of the Year honors — first from the American Distilling Institute in 2016, then from the New Orleans Spirits Competition in 2023 — along with a long list of Double Gold medals from the San Francisco World Spirits Competition.
